How To Dress Your Windows For Halloween
October 14, 2014
Halloween is just around the corner, and you may be racking your brain to come up with ways other than using the standard pumpkin to make your home both festive and a bit spooky. Utilizing the windows in your home as a decorating canvas is a great way to accomplish a fun holiday look.
The experts at Window Nation want to give you some easy and inexpensive ways to dress-up and spook-up your windows this Halloween season.
Spooky Ghosts
Cut ghosts out of white tissue paper and use black tissue or construction paper to create their eyes. Tape the ghosts to your windows so they appear to be peaking outside. This is a great way to increase the “spook” factor of your home during the daytime hours.
Bat Cave
Using a bay or other type of window in your home, decorate with spider webs that can be purchased from your local craft or big box store. Inside of the spider webs place either plastic or paper cut-outs of bats and spiders.
Window Silhouettes
Window silhouettes can be purchased at a party or craft store, or you can create your own out of construction paper or cardboard that is painted black. Bats, monsters, head stones, trees, owls and witches are all ideas to consider. Then simply adhere the cut-out to your window with tape and turn your lights on! For a more festive look replace your regular light bulbs with orange bulbs.
Tattered Curtains
Tattered curtains are a great way to add some Halloween décor to your home. Purchase cheap black curtains and shred them vertically to increase the creepy factor of your windows.
Other ideas for decorating your home for Halloween include putting out Halloween or fall-themed hand towels, door mats, candles, and dishes. Decorate your porch or deck with jack-o-lanterns, mums, hay bales, corn stalks and orange colored light strings. And don’t forget about your front yard! It can easily be transformed into a creepy cemetery by using foam to create headstones, and strategically placing skeletons around.
When decorating for Halloween, if you discover that your windows themselves are enough to scare both you and your neighbors, it may be time to think about replacement windows. Replacement windows will not only save you on energy costs (allowing you to increase your decorating budget) they will make your home more energy efficient by helping to keep the warm air in your home during the winter months and keep the hot air out during the summer months.
At Window Nation, we have many types and styles of windows to choose from to meet your home’s unique look and needs, along with being perfect to decorate for the holidays! If you would like more information about replacement windows, contact our expert or visit our Philadelphia showroom today!
